Biography van Deep Purple

Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in London in 1968. They are regarded as early contributors to the development of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical direction has changed at different points in their career. The band initially played psychedelic and progressive rock before shifting to a heavier style with the 1970 album "Deep Purple in Rock". They have been described as part of the influential early-1970s group of British hard rock and heavy metal acts alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Known for their high-volume performances, they were once listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s loudest band, and they have sold more than 100 million records worldwide. Several successful related acts have emerged from their membership, including Rainbow, Whitesnake, and Gillan. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Rod Evans, guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, bassist Nick Simper, keyboardist Jon Lord, and drummer Ian Paice. After three studio albums, Evans and Simper left in 1969 and were replaced by Ian Gillan and Roger Glover, creating what is commonly referred to as the Mark II lineup. This period included the orchestral project "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" (1969), four studio albums – "Deep Purple in Rock" (1970), "Fireball" (1971), "Machine Head" (1972), and "Who Do We Think We Are" (1973) – and the live album "Made in Japan" (1972). Gillan and Glover departed in 1973 and were replaced by David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes. The Mark III lineup released "Burn" (1974) and "Stormbringer" (1974). Blackmore left the group in 1975 and was replaced by Tommy Bolin; the Mark IV lineup recorded "Come Taste the Band" (1975) before Deep Purple disbanded in 1976. Bolin died later that year. The Mark II lineup reunited in 1984 and released "Perfect Strangers" (1984) and "The House of Blue Light" (1987). Gillan left in 1989 and Joe Lynn Turner joined for "Slaves and Masters" (1990), after which Gillan returned for "The Battle Rages On..." (1993). Blackmore left again in 1993, with Joe Satriani filling in temporarily before Steve Morse became the permanent guitarist. The lineup of Paice, Lord, Gillan, Glover, and Morse recorded "Purpendicular" (1996) and "Abandon" (1998). Lord retired in 2002 and was replaced by Don Airey. The lineup of Paice, Gillan, Glover, Morse, and Airey performed and recorded together for two decades. In 2022, Morse departed and Simon McBride joined as guitarist. Paice remains the only constant member throughout the band’s history. Deep Purple have received recognition for their influence on rock music, including high placements in public and media rankings of significant hard rock acts. They received the Legend Award at the 2008 World Music Awards and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
